The Whitchurch Association community website had been built some years ago, but the company that designed and built were unable to provide ongoing support. After so many years without updates it became clear that upgrading the site was going to be a large undertaking, and not one that could be attempted by a lay-person, and so Whitchurch approached Squelch Design for help.
After a lot of planning we were able to take a copy of the site into a development environment and undertake the necessary work to upgrade the site to the latest version of WordPress, and then fix the inevitable problems this caused. The newly upgraded website, plus its various enhancements, were then re-uploaded back to the existing hosting to give the impression of a seamless upgrade.
The site went from an ancient copy of WordPress to the latest version seemingly in the blink of an eye and everything continued with the minimum of disruption to users of the site. A number of fixes were made that made life easier for the management team as well as the users.
With their newly upgraded site in place they were anxious to add in some custom development to make life easier for users and management team. Things that hadn’t been possible with the old website were possible with the new site, but they needed a developer to make these possibilities a reality.
We worked closely with the customer to compile a list of specifications, and then proceeded to dismantle and rebuild the website in our development environment where our changes would not affect the customers. The custom development was then copied over to the live site along with extensive database and content changes.
Adding new content to the site is now a much more streamlined task which is far easier to explain to users, and much easier for the management team to deal with. Feedback has been positive and the website has been working solidly with the new code in place.
